Semin can't stay healthy, plays little or no defense, and is extremely inconsistent in his effort and focus. Your stats just show that there is a big gap in production, not that they are similar in production. Since 06/07, Semin has played in 264 of 337 games scoring 119 goals with 124 assists. Kovalchuk has played in 325 of 337 games scoring 167 goals with 143 assists. I don't see how you can say their production is in any way similar, thats a huge gap. Games played to me is the number one reason why this would be a fantastic trade even given that the Caps would have to give up another player. I do however agree with your sentiment that they should not be rocking the boat with a shakeup like this at this point in the season.
