Wow what an awesome interview. Some great insights by a very loving mother into her immensely talented, passionate yet still very human son. She must have been one hell of a point guard, with that talent, dedication and passion. No wonder her son is such an unbelievable player!

She's so right about the pressure on those guys, all of them - the Olympics was simply fantastic hockey, all-around. Just to get picked to rep your country in such an event would be an incredible honor, whatever the outcome.

PS. Not to pick on a sore subject, but I couldn't help but agree with Olyck that Russia got out-coached pretty badly. It was apparent early on that it wasn't Nabokov's night, and they needed to do something to change it up with that crowd. And Russia with all that talent was still in the game, even down 3-0. But 5-0 is tough for anybody, even for that squad. But I was so impressed with Ovie [along with Malkin, Gonchar, Semin, Federov, et al and how noone threw anybody else under the bus after, they were all very classy].

I was so disappointed when Team USA lost to Canada, I can only imagine how the players felt. And maybe that's unfair, as Mrs. O rightly says, noone lost that tourney, it's just Canada won [dammit, anybody but Canada, btw!].

But his mother's words ring true, you've just got to keep going. We're pulling for you, Ovie!!

Tatiana,

I was happy to hear you talk about the dinners you serve, as I am Polish and make similar dishes. My recipe for cabbage rolls was handed down to me from my grandmother who imigrated from Poland. You and I are of a similar age, so I apprecate the fun you must have cooking for your son and his friends. I would love to make cabbage rolls ("golabki") with you so that we could enjoy each other's recipes.

1) Hope Tatiana enjoyed her special day!

2) At least she's always there for Ovi

3) Ovi wearing roller blades! BTW, he looks much better with longer hair than with a buzz cut but that's my personal bias.

Thanks for posting this. As was already mentioned, I also wish the interview could have been longer. Mrs. Ovechkin surely has insights into her son that no one else has. It's obvious they're very close.

I hope Ovie takes his mother's words to heart. It should come as no surprise that an athlete as gifted and passionate as he is would feel the pressure to win constantly, whether for the NHL Caps or his country Russia. It's also clear, even in the translation, where Ovie gets his dedication and passion for the game from.

Time and wins do heal all wounds. I'm just hoping that vindication for Ovie, the easing of the tremendous burden he feels, comes sooner rather than later. A Stanley Cup championship will go a long way to ease the pain of Vancouver.

Yet another interview where Tatiana shows her genuine love for her son. As I have said before, she's a strong woman and is very dedicated to her family and what she loves. And to know that Alex is still hurting hurts me as a fan of the Caps and him. And his mother is right. All things come in due time, but you just have to keep going. That is very inspirational and to know that she is there for him no matter how far apart they are just shows her insight into how much she knows how Alex is and how much she truly cares. Great interview. Fantastic read.

btw that picture, DAMN ALEX WAS SKINNY AND TALL.
