BREAKING: The Capitals Will Take the Presidents’ Trophy

For the first time in their franchise history, the Washington Capitals have earned the most points among all NHL teams in the regular season.  After their loss to the Colorado Avalanches tonight, the San Jose Sharks cannot catch the Capitals’ 114 (and counting) points.  We’ve been all over this one (here and here).

Is the Prez the first of many trophies heading to D.C. this year?

I’m going to say yes, the first of many to come to DC this year.
I had my eye on that Sharks VS Avs game all night. It was a good game, and I, oh so, love the outcome of it.

And let the President’s Trophy curse rantings begin…..

But not from me. It’s not like there has never been a team that won the PT and then went on to win the Cup in the same year. And winning the PT is an accomplishment to be proud of all by itself. A hallmark year for the Caps! Ready for a win at tonight’s game against Boston!!

The Prez is the first TEAM trophy the Caps will win, hopefully to be topped with a Stanley Cup in June.

I don’t care if Ovie “loses” the Art Ross, Maurice Richard, and Hart trophies…as long as he gets to hoist Lord Stanley. Winning the Conn Smythe trophy as MVP of the playoffs is the only individual honor that will mean anything.
