It certainly wasn’t Ovie’s best game. It was a very poorly played game by him and most of his teammates. The second period was a stinker. Coach BB should force the players to watch the video so they don’t repeat it ever again.

Regarding Holtby, I think Ian nailed it. Whatever sanctimonious criticism we could come up with, he’s already said it in a post-game interview. He’s a total pro already.

@I am the Mole, I wouldn’t argue that Nicky deserved the whistle for the high stick, but should it have been a double? That’s all.

I ran into a bunch of Capitals fans at Cracker Barrel just now. They all looked despondent. I said, “Cheer up. Today’s game will go much better.”

Holtby certainly played great. It was interesting to hear him talk about his performance after the game, too. He was really angry that he hesitated on that Vanek pokecheck.

I really thought that he might look a little out of his league for the few weeks he’d be up with the Caps. Scratch that: he looks like an NHL player. The Caps legitimately have three great young goalie prospects in the system right now. That is such a nice luxury to have. Especially when deadline day comes around one year and we’re looking for that great player (see second line center or shutdown D) to put us over the top.

I love Holtby’s attitude and how hard he is on himself after games. I love how far out he goes to challenge shots. I love his fieriness. I love that he’ll throw his catching glove in a guy’s face if he’s in his crease. He reminds me so much of Olie. I really think he’s going to be a winner. Too bad he didn’t get the win last night!

Horrid display, and definitely not Ovi’s best game. In fact, I rather thought that the line juggling resulted in a demotion for Ovi and a promotion for Chimera to the top line with Semin and Backis—but that’s strictly my opinion. Holtby deserved to win, but the rest of the team really didn’t, and secretly, I was happy B-lo finally won one at home. On to the ATL.

Was a pretty one-sided night as far as penalties went. But that’s no excuse. To be fair, I thought they deserved the point they got. Holtby played really well and if not for a fluke on the PP would have taken a 2 – 1 win to the bank against one of the best netminders in the NHL.

Also, the 4 minute penalties were pretty silly and the offenders certainly didn’t earn them in most cases.
