The Caps are fortunate to come away with one point from this game. If not for the Flyers lack of discipline, taking bad penalities to give the Caps gift-wrapped power plays, the Caps would have lost in regulation.

Adding insult to injury was seeing that punk Briere score the winning goal in the shootout. My blood pressure definitely went up after that one.

More notes and observations:

I didn't like seeing Semin's evil twin return, back to his old habits of taking bad stick penalties. Has Alex Major's awful play rubbed off on Alex Minor? It's a bad omen if both Alexes drown in a flood of mediocrity.

Speaking of Alex Major: Ovie has become an embarrassment. He's no longer any fun to watch, and it saddens me to have to say this. I look at the YouTube tributes to him, and wonder where has that player gone. Ovie is not the Great8 anymore; that player has disappeared and he's become just an ordinary mediocre shell of his former self. Something is rotten in the state of Alex, and he's going to have to decide if he's satisfied with the status quo, or if he's got the balls to do something to start playing the way he's capable of playing.

On missed officiating calls -- Semin was tripped at least twice by Flyers players and there was no call on either. Frankly, I think those missed trips were more blatant penalties than the stuff he was called for.

A number of the penalties were weak, even for both teams. I find it funny that the refs get criticized for weak penalties, yet the players also get criicized for taking them. You can't have it both ways.. If it was a weak penalty, just criticize the ref, not the player, too!

Semin tried to set up Ovie. Semin did have an assist on the Fehr goal.

I am disappointed that Boyd Gordon's unbeaten streak has ended, but that pales in comparison to the lackluster effort of our skilled players. Who does Backstrom have to bribe to win a faceoff? Where is Ovechkin? So many questions and no satisfactory answers. Time for sleep.
