He was already under contract for next year yet he resigned for a NEW one year deal. This tells me that he went to the Traktor board and said “I’m going to play for Washington next year.” Desperate to get him back, they obviously offered him a one-year deal worth a lot of money. That’s the key though… I think it’s only a one yearer because they know there’ll be no stopping him coming. When he was drafted, the announcers said “he is ready to do anything to come to the NHL,” and even though he said things that really worried me like “maybe in a year or two I might now want to come to the NHL at all,” I think this kid is serious about his future. I think his wedding shows that he’s ready to move on to the next step in his life, he’s ready to become an adult. He wants to become more mature.

I am so excited for this guy to be a Capital.

Then Alex Semin re-signed with the team for another year and Kuzya never once uttered those desires again. I think he just wants an opportunity to play big minutes. If he can’t get it with the Capitals, he’ll stay in his hometown, get plenty of ice time, and be adored. It’s really a win win for him. I think we’ll definitely see him the year after next. So no worries!
