The Capitals regularly pick up goalies in the draft, particularly in the middle rounds. Søberg is no different than Grubauer or Dunn. He's of more concern to Dunn and Anderson than he is to Varlamov. If he reaches the NHL level, it won't be for 3-4 years (when the goalie scenario is likely to be very different than now). I highly doubt McPhee or Prior are making any calls about Varlamov based on drafting a guy who's still years away.

I like the Brouwer trade. Instead of drafting a player who may or may not make the team for several years the Caps are getting a player who can play on the second or third line and give the team 15-20 goals per year. Plus, he adds some toughness. Even though he is due for a pay raise, I think he will be cheaper than Brooksie. I love Brooksie, and I hate the thought of seeing him go somewhere else. However, this is his time to make some serious money in a summer when the UFA talent pool is concsidered to be moderate. Brooksie will be sought after and he will get a nice contract. The Caps have put themselves in a nice position to replace him should he go elsewhere. I would love to think that we could have Brooksie and Brouwer on the same team.
@Markus - Brouwer was signed under a two-year deal which expires on July 1st. The Blackhawks dumped him knowing they couldn't afford to re-sign him with the team so close to the salary cap limit. Brouwer, in fact, can sign a contract with any team on July 1st, but the Caps can match any deal if they so choose. Since GMGM, has close to $10 mil to work with, expect him to be on the roster in October.
