He does work for the Bruins but he’s also a man with a right to his own opinion and views. I applaud him for not showing up. Yeah, he may be our representative for this country but he’s just another rich man with empty promises. Like most of them. I think he made a noble stance and a huge statement by choosing to not attend. If I were in his shoes, I wouldn’t have gone either.

The Bruins don’t seem to have a problem with it, both the team and the management, so what does it matter anyways? He doesn’t need a photo op with fake smiles and a discomforting ordeal to prove he’s a champion.

As C in C, he works for us. We have that right to express our dissatisfaction with his work on behalf of the country. If people had not done just that 200 years ago, there would not be a country in which to exercise this right.

The thing that people are missing in this White House blip is that it was an invitation from the office, not the man. Regardless of one’s personal feelings about whoever happens to currently hold the title of Commander in Chief, it is an honor to be hosted by the person who is the representative of the United States to the rest of the world. Thomas dissed his entire team, and insulted the organization and their fans, because of his political leanings. There’s a time and a place for that, and this was a poor decision on his part.

Do I think he had the right to do it? Absolutely. That much is not debatable. Would I have done the same? Highly unlikely. I’d like to think I have more class than that.

I don’t mind Timmy Thomas exercising his rights. I really don’t think it’s as big a scandal as people are calling it–hockey players can oppose government growth too.
