Apparently, Winnipeg Jets fans have a short memory.
Oh, you Canadiens. You’re so very clever. Next Friday though, it’s on.
S/T to @whistler and The Pensblog for initially posting the video.
Please learn the difference between CanadiAns and CanadiEns. thank you!
As a Canadian, I was happy the Jets got their franchise back, but now I’m starting to really dislike their home crowd. I always hesitate to criticize crowds reactions during the heat of a game, but whenever I watch a game on TV that takes place there I end up muting it and trying to sync up the radio.
A few weeks ago, they chanted “Silver Medal” to Ryan Miller during the Buffalo game. Now it’s Crosby’s better? Blech. I’m all for an excited crowd, and a bit of jeering can be fun, but they seem to border on obnoxious. Please note that not all Canadians think this way (Crosby has the personality of a toe nail), and we don’t all think hockey belongs only to Canada. So please don’t let Winnipeg reflect badly on the rest of us! Also what is this 2006? Who cares who is better? They’ve both proven their skills and resiliency.
I say caps fans bring a “no stars” chant
There is no place better to watch a game than in Winnipeg.
If you don’t think crosby’s better than ovie, you’re a moron, who doesnt deserve an opinion about hockey. Try to find one unbiased analyst who would disagree with that. Sorry you dont have fans as knowledgeable and as passionate as winnipeg’s. Way to make yourself look ignorant.
Bet they won’t because they don’t know enough about the players involved in the first place. I’d wager fans there could barely name their second line forwards. Oh also, Blake wheeler has more points than any caps haha
How ’bout a “We Have Class” chant.

I’m pretty sure as a free-thinking citizen, I’m allowed to have a differing opinion about a game and players. Also, I don’t rely on “analysts” to base my opinion. If I’m the ignorant one for not liking Crosby, then what are you for disrespecting every team that comes into your arena? You saying I shouldn’t have an opinion on hockey because I have a different opinion is ignorant. Good for you that you got your team back but don’t forget that it was yours to lose in the first place.
who is this maple syrup sucker who only goes by “guest” writing about how great winnipeg is so awesome. isn’t there arena a building used for junior hockey last year and a team that wasnt’ in winnipeg as thye sucked before even with their “great fans” i give it five to ten before it moves again maybe they will be the Quebec Nordiques again since franchise names really don’t matter. about Crosby he can’t really be better as one has been playing the game going through the rigors of the season while the other was in a press box, by the way isn’t he only like the same height as Perrault , he is going to get his head knocked silly again
At least our goalie can stop shots from center ice!!!!
So Jeremiah, how’s Moses? Also, how’s the Cup that ovechkin’s won? What year was that again? Oh right, he hasn’t. Scoreboard.
Jeremiah, say Moses. How many cups has ovi won? Right, none.
Haha, Saddam had opinions too. Look how that turned out. Stay out of it, your opinion is laughable. Why write on a discussion board about a topic you know nothing about..?
Hey jer, learn some punctuation before you embarrass yourself more. Youve gotta be the dumbest sounding guy #shitforbrains
Lazy insults. Ovi is 27, his career is far from over. The Stanley Cup is won by a team not just one player, so you can’t say that a player isn’t skilled just because he hasn’t won the cup. Pavel Bure, Darryl Sittler, Trevor Linden, Markus Naslund, Marcel Dionne, Cam Neeley. All these players never won the cup, but are still hall of famers just like Ovi will be. Maybe you should spend a little less time worrying about who is better and a little more time coming up with original insults for when you troll other fanbases.
Saddam? Really? Maybe you shouldn’t take these things to seriously. You look pretty foolish when you compare having an opinion on a hockey player to having an opinion on mass murder…
Agreed. Just making an exaggerated point so that Jeremiah can understand. Also the form of the word you wanted was “too seriously”. Just saying.
Thanks, pal. I actually am a copy editor, but given that this is a comments section of a blog, I won’t get too worked up over my mistake. Also I figure if all you have to criticize is a small grammar mistake, my point must be valid. Cheers on your trolling attempts though, it was good for a laugh.
Also, can I just say that I never once said I thought Crosby was a bad player. He is one of the best players in the world I won’t deny it. I just happen to like Ovechkin’s style and the Caps team better. It’s a personal choice and everyone is entitled to like who they want. Some of my favourite players have 4 goals on the year, and I don’t think that makes my opinion less valid. Let’s get over telling other fans who they are allowed to like and how they are supposed to watch the game.
Lol . If he dont win the stanley cup he is not in the top player in the world? But if i remember he’s a player who scored 50 goals or more before his 23 years and two years in arrow??!! Relax a little bit now. (sorry guy’s for my bad english)
This thread was almost a PERFECT example of the internet argument. If only he had said “Hitler” instead of “Saddam” it would have been a hat trick: (1) Mention anonymous “experts” without references, (2) Compare something to Nazis, (3) Point out a grammar error as a last resort.
I think it’s funny how Malkin is much better than Crosby…
Oh great another brickhead. Now this guy is a true fool. I’d have imagined the expertise of hockey insiders was implied, you know, journalists and analysts who are surrounded by players, coaches and support staff day in and day out? Uhhh, not sure where you come from, but here people actually do that for a living. Sounds like something you know nothing about. In fact you sound exactly like a creationist complaining about evolution. Sorry dum dum, people like you don’t even know where to begin getting the respect you want so obviously. Thanks for coming out but no one needs saving from a bonehead.
You’re a nancy, don’t try to make it like you’re speaking for the majority of Canadians…who do in fact love seeing the Jets and their crowd
Oh I apologize. I had no idea that meant something other than you should be better at you job. Also I forgot to mention that I’m a super high level hockey insider. Pal.
Think you’re taking this all too seriously, it’s a game. All fans are entitled to chant what they want; they paid for the ticket. Talking about being disrespectful, even Ovi loved it. Get over yourself
WHOAH someone hired me to edit blog comment boards? This is going to be tough with so many people out there who comment under “guest”. Who will I address my edits to?
See I said “not all Canadians” meaning not the majority of Canadians, so I don’t I was speaking for the majority. I’m sure many people of all different nationalities love seeing the Jets crowd get worked up…and many more who don’t. That’s the wonderful thing about hockey, we can view the same game differently.
I just wanna see what happens if we keep nesting comments. You guys keep sniping back and forth, but keep it snarky lest we turn the firehose on you like rowdy prisoners.
What were Saddam’s opinion on hockey and who is the better player? I’m very intrigued! Please share your knowledge of this with the rest of us!
Okay…not criticizing because you’ve already gotten enough crap from some of these people…but Ovi is only 26…and your point is still valid!
CONTEXT: Godwin’s Law
What’s funny is the Jets will never have a franchise player like Crosby or Ovechkin because nobody of that caliber wants to play on a team in the middle of nowhere. Coming from a Leafs fan
Heaven forbid the crowd has a little bit of fun at the expense of a bunch of millionaires!! Stop worrying about these guys feelings being hurt as i’m sure that they really don’t mind it! They call it home ice advantage for a reason and there is no harm in it at all so quit crying about it. Enjoy watching whoever your team is in your arena with a lack of crowd atmosphere. GO JETS GO!!!
I’m a Jets fan and that is clever! If it gets the crowd together and everyone has more fun at the game by getting involved then i’m all for it! Your paying a lot of money for those tickets so ya may as well go and have the most fun you can!
I can’t believe you think that this reflects poorly on Canada. Even Ovi said he loved it because it brings atmosphere into the building. It was simply a chant to go after the best player on the other team. Would chanting Ovi sucks be better for you? How about the leafs fans chanting Fire Wilson? Thats not very nice to chant for another human being to lose their job is it? How does that reflect on Canadians? People are paying a lot of money for those tickets and are going to have a good time. Last I checked, Ovi is making a hell of a lot of money so I think he can take it! You need to quit worrying about being politically correct as it does not reflect poorly on Canada to show that their hockey fans are passionate.
I for one am glad our city has a mean crowd. The team thrives on it, and I think it accurately reflects the overall affect, attitude, and hockey culture here in Winnipeg
Jets fans also got a “1-3-1″ chant going against Tampa the first time they visited:
No other group of fans are as conscious as Jets fans..
Wow scla, you should go to hospital and get that pole out of your ass. Lighten up.
wow scla, you are quite easily offended. Do you think the fans really think ovechkin sucks? Or Kovalchuk? Pronger? Malkin? Obviously they all know they’re very talented players, the best on their respective teams, hence why they boo them. Do you think that the players are gunna get their feelings hurt? Go cry a little bit? Hell no, if anything it’s a compliment, because they are the biggest threat on their team.
It’s all in good fun, and everyone in winnipeg knows that. Everyone everywhere else knows this too, except apparently you. So get whatever large object you have crammed up your “you know what” outta there and lighten up. There are far worse things to get upset about than a lively crowd that makes the game more exciting for both the fans and the players.
it’s okay “guest,” I lie on hockey blogs about being an insider too. doesn’t it make you feel better about living in your parents’ basement?
so the silver medal chant doesnt relflect poorly upon your country?
might i remind you that your leading scorer and your entire blueline are american (with the exception of tobias enstrom, and one or two irrelevant canadians who split time being career-AHL caliber nobodies). i also enjoy the jet in your logo, which is most certainly american-made as canada has no aeronautical industry to speak of.
dont worry though, the oversized maple leaf that constitutes 50% of your logo makes it canadian…totally canadian, you really are self-sufficient.
might wanna cover up, your inferiority complex is showing. and by showing i mean glaring.
so when do you think the current iteration of your beloved jets franchise will fold?
-5 points for using an american to better your argument.
like anti-americanism. cant say enough about that canadian attitude and culture.
i wish i was cool enough to hashtag my blog post
better than having a lack of a crowd, period, leading to financial collapse and a long trek to glendale, arizona
yes, all 12 of you are quite conscious
You are very correct about the blue line. I don’t think any of them were overly offended by it or maybe they would’ve said something and told their fans to calm down a bit. Still trying to figure out where the inferiority complex kicks in when the chant is about a huge hockey game in a country that loves hockey at a hockey game! Lived in your country for five years, had a great time and got ripped on plenty for being Canadian but I didn’t get all bent out of shape about it as you clearly are. Just take it easy and remember we’re talking about hockey here. I do appreciate your efforts of trying to offend me though, you make some good points and it’s great that we can help your economy by buying american-made jets. As for the lack of aeronautical industry , the last time I flew to Denver with United Airlines, it was on a CRJ which is a canadian-made aircraft. So there is a bit of an aeronautical industry here just fyi. Now i’m going to go and eat some french fries and gravy and drink some maple syrop…EH!!! Blame Canada
You are very correct about that. A good buddy of mines dad played on that first Jets team and losing a friend to moving was just as bad. Not gonna happen again that can be assured.
No, let’s clear this up since you made this a country-vs-country flame. Silver medal represents the US, Gold medal represents Canada. I’m glad we got that crystal clear.
Next, the Winnipeg Jets are 100% Canadian, it’s a goddamn hockey team not a military.
With 13,000 season ticket holders locked in for 5 years, plus the 8,000 currently capped on the WAITING list. All corporate seats locked in for 10 years… You do the math. It’s not going anywhere, so you can take your downer attitude and stick it.
