Caps beat Rangers 4-1, And Now… Playoffs!

That’s it. That is all 82 games of the regular season in the books. The word you are thinking of is ROLLERCOASTER. The Caps’ dominating win over the Rangers was exactly what this team needed heading into the postseason.

Ovi scored like 30 seconds in on a set play off Brooks Laich’s faceoff. Matty Perreault deflected in Roman Hamrlik’s long bomb. John Carlson converted a dismal powerplay. That was all in the first period. Nicky Backstrom got his first goal since returning, and then Brian Boyle broke Braden Holtby’s shutout.

No bullet points tonight. We are still at Front Page having a merry time. Lots of hockey yet to come.

Crash the net.

RMNB Party 4: Judgment Day

Starting at 5:30 at Front Page Arlington, it’s finally time for #RMNBParty4! Ostensibly it is a viewing party for Game 82, the Caps at the Rangers, but it’s really so much more. We already know the Caps are in the playoffs, but tonight we find out who they’ll face in the first round. It’ll be a good time.

Everyone is welcome. No dress code (but you can’t go wrong in red). The game starts at 6:30, but we’ll be partying as of 5:30. Immediately after the game, we’ll be playing SO YOU’RE AN EXPERT!?, which might be a total trainwreck.

If you’re gonna be making social media noise at or about the party, please do so using the #RMNBParty4 hashtag. We’ll be broadcasting all those tweets behind the jump and collecting them for a post-mortem. See you at the party!

Long, Strange Trip: The past few months have been a roller coaster for the team and fans alike. As the regular season was winding down and points were becoming ever more precious, the playoff picture was coming into focus for a lot of teams that were not named the Washington Capitals. That sucked. The last month or so was a teeth-grinding, butt-clenching, freaky-outy nightmare. Night after night, we saw our playoff chances dissipate in loss after loss, points squandered, a team in name only, flailing about the ice with no apparent sense of mission or urgency.
