I was wondering this as well when it was posted on the Caps facebook page earlier today. If you watch the video above, you’ll hear the announcer say “….only Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, and Mario Lemieux averaged more assists per game than Oates.” The scoreboard was simply providing closed captioning and the photo just happened to catch the tail end of it.
