BREAKING: Alex Semin has signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. We’ve said our goodbyes, shared our favorite memories of Semin. We even stood outside his window, blasting Peter Gabriel from a boombox, but nothing could make him stay.
Semin will get a $300k raise on his salary from 2011-12, when he scored 21 goals in 77 games. Semin will wear #28 in Carolina, and we can expect him to share ice time with Jordan Staal.
Follow us past the jump to watch our final farewell to Sasha, a video montage by Max Duchaine.
The song is “Eyes” by Rogue Wave.
Goodbye, Alex Semin. Thanks for everything.
This makes tears come to my eyes. I’m going to miss Sasha as a Capital, even if he is going to my home team. </3
Ohhhh my gosh. Best. I’m bordering on crying and laughing hysterically. Love the close up of his “eyes” and the ending fade away.
Well, crap. We will miss him.
Okay, no lie. When he said “I like play here.” Kinda made me sad.
Max, fantastic work. Just stunning.
It’s All Too Much! Will have to tear up the road between here and Raleigh. GDGMGM.
Thank you for this and all of the other heartfelt coverage of the most interesting player in the NHL.
*sigh* He is going to tear the Caps up this year isn’t he…
ahh fuk it… he’s gonna play a season in carolina and beg to play for the caps again…Especially after they win the cup this year!… Caps should go get Bobby Ryan… right now!
No lie, I’m sad. I’m going to miss that screwball.
Thanks for working with me to do the video, Max. You’re the man!
shouldnt have signed within the division, hopefully OVI will remind him of that bad decision when we play them next 🙂
I’m right there with you
So much to miss …This is the capstone to a miserable summer.
RMNB never fails to put out top quality Capitals information/entertainment. Alex Semin, no matter how many times he seemed to end up in the Penalty Box in crucial situations, always had a soft spot in my heart. Maybe because his snipes made up for his penalties. Wish him all the best in Carolina, expect when we play them of course. Rock the Red! God bless!
The Staal Smackdown! ahahahahaha So amazing. Godspeed, Alex Semin.
Ok. this made me sad. 🙁
Sad signing. Good work with video. I might also included his absolutely sickening goal to Tomas in playoffs. Maybe that goal forced TT to take year off)
My internet blew up when the announcement came out. No cell service. no internet. no landline. That’s how much I didn’t want to hear this news. I wish I knew how to quit you, Sasha.
I blame his agent.
Great, great video! I’ll miss you, Sasha and wish you the best on your new team.
On Sasha…we will miss you. There are six games next season that I do not wish you well. And remember that the Staals will never love you like Ovi does.
I agree that the money may have been too much, but take a look at our roster now. Who besides Ovi can score 30+ goals? How many of Chimera’s goals last year were plays created by Semin? I’m gonna miss this dude. He was a big part of the team.
Crap. If he had to go, I really wanted to see him shine with Datsyuk (the frickin’ Canes?!). This just…stinks. It feels like when the first child leaves the nest. You’ll be missed Sasha, all the best. 🙁
Thanks, Sasha, for giving my son such a wonderful memory!
Knew it was coming – still brutal though.
Is it bad that I just had an emotional breakdown because of this?
I bawled like a little girl when I heard that interview at the end. I was like, “I wanted that toooooo… why did you gooooooooo?!” 🙁
I’m sad, but I’m relieved he didn’t go to Pittsburgh

Good and moving video, and made me almost sad to see him go. I know he is going to burn Caps for goals, but here is hoping that the locker room just got a little less complicated. And I still miss Knuble more.
Dawwwww thanks man. Broke my heart having to make it.
Always a pleasure bro!
He’ll ALWAYS be OUR Sasha, dammit!!! dammit!!!
Heres to hoping he rejoins us at the trade deadline!
As a Semin fan, I was not happy to see him go but knew it was inevitable. It seemed that the Caps didn’t want to bring him back and he didn’t want the reduced role that he was getting. I will miss him greatly. I’ll still remain a Caps fan as I was a fan even before Semin was born. I’ll wish him luck, although not against the Caps.
Thanks for the great work. I still don’t want believe Sasha will not play in DC next season. That “I like play here” at the end… damn, makes me really sad. Do your thing Sasha and proof all the haters wrong, tear it up with the Staals in Carolina.
So when are the Caps headed to Raleigh? I want to get my tickets now. The Caps picked the wrong Russian.
