While the NHL is shut down for the foreseeable future, international hockey is in full bloom. For example: Sweden, where Washington Capitals 2012 first round pick Filip Forsberg played his second full season for Leksands Idrottsförening of the Allsvenskan league.

On Tuesday the 18-year-old (who was rated the top-rated European skater going into this year’s draft) scored his first goal of the 2012-13 season and recorded an assist in Leksands IF’s 5-3 victory over Tingsryd.

Report: Alex Ovechkin to Sign With KHL’s Dynamo Moscow

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has reportedly agreed to a contract with his hometown team, Dynamo Moscow. According to Sport-Express’ Yuri Golyshak, the Caps’ star winger will sign the deal and an official announcement will be made “in the near future.” The contract will give Ovechkin the flexibility to leave if the NHL lockout ends.

Caps Prospect Tom Wilson Plays Shirtless Soccer

Way back in June, after George McPhee took Tom Wilson 16th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Wilson revealed to the media that he was a big fan of Alex Ovechkin as a kid. “I had his jersey growing up,” the Toronto native said. “It’s gonna be really cool to meet him [in training camp].”
