Mighty Ducks didn’t get me into hockey (I started late in life), but it did speak to why I love hockey–both as a fan and a player: The game rewards perseverance like no other, and no-quit is just as important as skill (if not more so).

My elder daughter was also a fan of Keenan and Kel. And used to watch “All That”. Gee, all the nostalgia. And she saw all 3 Mighty Ducks movies in the theater as well

It wasn’t terrible. Not nearly as good as the other two, with neither of the sequels living up to the first movie (naturally). Since the characters are all in high school now, it tries to be angsty which is uncomfortable at times. Worth a watch though.

I think you hit it right on the head– The Mighty Ducks was designed to be loved. It is formulaic to its core, and nowadays, wouldn’t break even at the box office. But for some reason, my college roommates and I will pop it into the XBox about once a week. I think it is because it reminds of us a time that seemed a lot less complicated by comparison, a time in which good does triumph over evil. As you get older, the gray area grows, but with Ducks, there is a firm line between it all.

Mighty Ducks didn’t get me into hockey, but it’s kept me in hockey. It’s something comforting I can turn to in a time in which it is uncertain for the fate of the sport.

I remember being into hockey for about a year prior to the movie being released, and I remember a lot of my grade school friends suddenly being hockey fans/players about a month after seeing it. A bunch of them stuck with it rather than moving on to the next fad, which was nice.

My daughter was the perfect age for the Mighty Ducks movies — currently age 27. She lobbied to see the original one even though she wasn’t a hockey fan at the time and, as a hockey fan, I consented to take her. Took her to both of the other installments too. (And remember the night she watched all three of them as part of a MD marathon on Disney Channel.) And, for Caps fans, the month the original “Mighty Ducks” was released was the last time Caps had beaten the San Jose Sharks in San Jose. (Okay, that last note is depressing.)
