Alex Ovechkin Breaks Glass With His Head in Dynamo Win

With his newly signed BFF Nicklas Backstrom in attendance, Alex Ovechkin continued his point-per-game pace in the KHL, scoring his fifth goal of the season in Dynamo Moscow’s 4-1 win over Atlant Moscow Region. In 16:34 of ice time, Ovi had four shots on goal and — oh yeah — broke a pane of freaking glass with his head.

Let’s take a look at this hit!

With the the National Hockey League and the Players Association making no further movement towards ending the lockout, Nicklas Backstrom officially made his move to the KHL today. Backstrom and Dynamo Moscow agreed in principle to a one-year deal, that will be severed only if the NHL lockout ends.

This is really happening, you guys. Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin are now reunited. Backstrom was spotted by Sovetsky sport’s Pavel Lysenkov this afternoon taking a photo with Alex Ovechkin at Dynamo Moscow’s practice facility in Novogorsk. They couldn’t look happier, but Nicky’s contract status is still a bit murky.

Alex Ovechkin gloves

Alex Ovechkin‘s older brother Sergei first introduced him to hockey as a kid. When Alex was 10 years old, Sergei died in a car accident. Since then, Ovi’s kept his brother’s memory close. On the gloves that Alex wears for Dynamo Moscow, Sergei’s name (Сергей Овечкин) is inscribed.

Gives a bit more meaning to the glove-kiss goal celebration.

Report: Nick Backstrom Joins Alex Ovechkin at Dynamo Moscow

Swedish site Sveriges Television is reporting that Nick Backstrom has signed with Alex Ovechkin‘s KHL team, Dynamo Moscow, for the remainder of the lockout. Details are sketchy, and who knows how long the lockout will last, but it seems like the band is getting back together. Kinda/sorta.

According to SVT (and via the inscrutable magic of Google Translate) Backstrom said, “I want to play hockey and this will be a fun challenge.” Backstrom also says Ovechkin convinced him to sign.

This is great news for the two BFFs, but let’s hope CBA negotiations this week result in an even bigger reunion soon.

The National Hockey League and the Players Association have made progress in the last few days towards ending the lockout, but the season’s not on yet. And that means one thing: more articles prying into the players’ personal lives based off Twitter posts!

And unlike the last time, this does not involve adorable dogs. Instead: (presumably) adorable babies. That’s because Troy Brouwer’s wife Carmen has recently given birth to a little girl by the name of Kylie Marie.

Filip Forsberg Crashes the Net for Comeback Win

Filip Forsberg

Though he was ranked the top European skater in this year’s NHL draft, Filip Forsberg‘s second full season with Leksands Idrottsförening has gone even better than expected. He has tallied six goals and five assists in his first 11 games of the year, and is set to nearly quadruple his point production from a year ago.

On Wednesday, Forsberg got out of what some would call a “funk.” After posting a career-high four points against IK Oskarshamn, the Washington Capitals 2012 first-round pick tallied only two assists in his next three games. Today against Bofors IK Karlskoga, Forsberg rediscovered his mojo, scoring his seventh goal of the season on a beautiful individual play.

Karl Alzner’s Dog Ends His Personal Lockout

With the lockout a little over a month old, Karl Alzner‘s dog Murphy decided to show the type of free-thinking and ingenuity that will be needed to end the NHL’s labor dispute. Presumably using his paws, Murphy jimmied the crate door open (again) and left his calling card on the carpet.

The reign of terror in the Alzner household continues.

I hate the lockout. You hate the lockout. Pretty much everybody in the entire world hates the NHL lockout. But today, after doing some research with Fedor Fedin, we have found out something that makes the lockout a little bit more bearable.

On Saturday, Brooks Laich followed up that dreadful game against EHC Biel with a brilliant two-goal, three-point effort against Geneve-Servette.

Take a look at the video below.
