Nicky celebrates his GWG! (Photo credit: dynamo.ru)

A week after he tallied a hat trick against Vityaz Chekhov, Nicklas Backstrom destroyed Vityaz again, scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in Dynamo’s 3-2 win Tuesday.

At this point, one thing’s crystal clear: Nicky loves sixty-nine. Ever since changing his number early last week, Backstrom has morphed into the Swedish Gretzky, tallying 8 points in 4 games. In his previous 5 games with that other number, he had 3.

Now let’s see those goals.

Backstrom’s GWG.

Full highlights. Backstrom’s goals are at the 2:12 and 5:30 marks.

Alex Ovechkin, who continues to wear the C in Yuri Babenko’s absence, also played a big role in the victory, receiving both primary assists on Backstrom’s goals and firing two shots on net.

Backstrom has got the whole steal the puck easily thing he showed during the playoffs against the Rangers and Bruins, now he seems to a very good shooter.

Where as Ovechkin, started out in the KHL shooting a lot and has really stopped shooting, which is disappointing.

That was a well-contested shot with one guy pressurizing Nick from behind and another trying to block a shot with his stick. I’ve seen waaay more wide open shots in the NHL.
