I’m sure many of the guys weren’t that close to begin with, But the fact that they are airing the gripes about other guys on the team to the media, would make the relationships among them even worse.

Karl Alzner will be on 106.7 (DC Radio) at 5pm. This conflict was specifically mentioned during the promo. It’ll be interesting to see if this subject is discussed in depth.

It was stupid to say what he did to the media, rather than Hamrlik and Nuevy themselves, but he was definitely not wrong, IMO. I’d be all for a Czech-slap.

Brouwer it would appear is on his way out. An underachiever anyway he looks pretty stupid making dumb comments. Maybe we can trade him to Carolina where he can join Semin another underachiever that could have been one of the best that ever played.

This is a good point, I think you are right that some guys weren’t that close in the first place. Alzner clearly understands Hamrlik, but where is Brouwer’s understanding of his teammate? The whole lockout situation is just disgusting and we are seeing bad sides to many people.

I never liked Hamrlik too much but with every interview, my opinion of Neuvy is going down. Way to be completely clueless about the situation, Neuvy.

you brought up how last season should have brought the team together, yet they are playing in different leagues/countries/teams, with lockout there is no capitals there is no NHL. there are a bunch of people bickering over money that might be made or might not depending on if fans show up. Neuvy has seemed to have had a personality change since Voukoun came to the caps to mentor him next he will be yelling at teammates when he gives up a soft goal like Vokoun does. Hammrlik’s comments are based in the fact his career is probably ending soon in this league. the last comments i remmember Ted saying kinda jinxed the wisards by him saying how well they were going to do then their best two players get injured. this article and others like it are real signs of slow news days and nothing new to report on the lockout

Another possibility is that the relationships already weren’t that great, and a continuing lockout will simply reveal more of the team’s internal conflicts.

Perhaps Troy Brouwer was unwise for voicing his feelings about his teammates, but I find his reaction perfectly reasonable, and far from “wanton disrespect.” Hamrlik’s words reflected pure selfishness and disregard for current and future players. He was saying only, “I want my money now.” Of course he has the right to state his opinion, but it would have been nice if there had been a little balance to his words. He made it sound as if Donald Fehr is the only obstacle to a deal, which is ignoring the league’s failure to negotiate at all, from the start. Also, as to your stating that nothing Ovie, Sid or Kovalchuk has said has helped the situation, I would disagree–they have helped the NHLPA by speaking out in support of it consistently, something NHL stars largely haven’t done in the past. Good for them, I say.

Brouwer is just being a good NHLPA soldier. We’d expect nothing less. In fact, it would’ve been nice if he’d flown to the Czech Republic and slapped Hamr and Neuvy around a little bit to get them in line.
