Matt Hendricks shootout move

The book on Matt Hendricksparalyzing shootout move is out. He skates up to the crease with speed, fakes a shot, and then goes to his backhand to deposit the puck into the net. Sometimes he would do the same thing, but stay on his forehand and shoot. Both moves are highly effective. So now everyone knows them.

On Monday, the second day of Caps training camp, Hendricks debuted a new wrinkle. As the wagon commits to a backhand shot, which many goaltenders would expect, Hendy dekes back to his forehand while in the crease.

Michal Neuvirth, who was prepared for the move, couldn’t stop it. He was so faked out he knocked the net off its moorings.

Kathryn Barry meets her favorite player

Coming into training camp, the Washington Capitals had a few question marks around their forwards. Brooks Laich was sidelined by a groin injury, and Wojtek Wolski was tentatively slated [gulp] as a top-six winger. But on Saturday, as the lockout ended, George McPhee got himself some insurance, inking longtime-Cap Eric Fehr to a one-year deal worth $600,000. The signing made a lot of fans happy.

None more so than Kathryn Barry.

On Sunday, the Washington Capitals officially opened training camp at Kettler Capitals IcePlex in front of about 1,000 raucous Caps fans. There wasn’t an empty seat in the bleachers, and rows of red-clad fans, four to five people deep, surrounded the rink. It was as if the lockout never happened.

But there were some fans not in red. They stood out from the pack, and that was intentional.
