Maria Kirilenko reached the fourth round of the Australian Open by beating Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer in straight sets. Speaking with Some Guy after the game, Maria showed off her engagement ring to Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin, by the way, is a name that interviewer seemed unable to say. Maria took it all in stride, turning an awkward interview into a pretty darn charming moment.

Nice catch, Ovi.

One piece of breaking news: Maria says the couple has not set a wedding date yet.

Wednesday night against BIK Karlskoga (Marcus Johansson’s former lockout team), Caps first-round pick Filip Forsberg failed to score a goal in Leksands IF’s 5-4 comeback win. The 18-year-old Swede did however tally two assists, the first of which is so incredible, you will replay the below video 5 to 10 times trying to figure out how the h-e-double hockey sticks the perfectly placed tape-to-tape backhand pass got through so many players.

This may be pass of the year in the HockeyAllsvenskan.

Remember All Those New Caps Players?

Me neither.

Since the Caps last played hockey– sometime during the Medieval Warm Period, they’ve lost a few guys. Alex Semin left via free agency for Carolina, Mike Knuble returned to the exotic beauty of Michigan, Tomas Vokoun made a pit stop in Breezewood before heading up to Pittsburgh, and Dennis Wideman got such a ludicrous and undeserved payday in Calgary that you’d think he had left congress to start lobbying for the MPAA.

You’re gonna see some new faces on Saturday night, so here’s a quick refresher on the additions the Capitals made just before the lockout sucked the last ounce of joy out of the universe.
