I specifically recall a delay of game when Brouwer cleared the puck into the stands when he had no pressure and open ice during a 4 on 5 after a Backstrom tripping which lead to a 3 on 5 goal against the Caps. Getting tired if this guy’s lip.

I believe Kolzig would’ve been captain, but his being a goalie prevented it. Since the captain can talk to refs (and so can goalies), it’s kind of a strategic miss to give the goalie a C.

Actually, goalies can be captain. Luongo was Vancouver’s captain before he ‘relinquished’ it a couple of years ago.

Some points are justified but the article is one sided. Good example of how hard to switch sides is in New Jersey article about Ovi and Caps published before Caps-NJD game. It took couple season for Kovalchuk to adjust his game for RW. During first season, they even abandoned the idea, and returned to it with the new HC.

concur with this, especially if remember that couple really bad penalties by Brouwer resulted in goals and he missed several really good scoring chances

You know, there was another Caps Russian LW who mysteriously somehow managed to learn to play RW. He was quite successful at it, too. Now he can play either side. But, you won’t be seeing much of him.

everybody knows how to coach now most of the team underperforms, particularly Alzner and Carlson not just ovi. So, it’s not just motivation or fitness issue.

Not sure why people are so hung up on something as meaningless as the “C” on someone’s sweater. They’re not gonna start taking less stupid penalties, or improve their stagnant Power Play by giving another player a gimmicky patch on their uniform. It’s just window dressing, folks. These guys are supposed to be playing hard for Lord Stanley’s Cup, not for some glorified token of faux leadership attached to whomever’s sweater. Can we please give this argument a permanent rest?
