When the Washington Capitals traded Mathieu Perreault to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, we felt like a chapter in the Book of the Caps had come to a close: ridiculous, post-game celebrations.

We were wrong.

During Thursday’s home opener, RMNB reader Michael Houghton performed his tribute to Perreault, printing out a jumbo version of the canuck’s head to hold up during warm-ups.

Later, after the Caps won in the shootout, Joel Ward and Jason Chimera shared a special moment. First, Ward gave Chimera a push in the back. Chimera then returned the favor forcefully. Celebration!

I call it: “The Love Shove.”

Mathieu Perreault: he lives on in our hearts and in our celebrations. Also in Anaheim, where he actually lives now.

Woot. I didn’t see any other instances. I had two sets with me, because Joanna realized that her knees would not support her walking down for the warmups and then back up to the 400 level.

Also, how do you get stupid Vine videos to play? I have't figured it out yet.

Funny… I always called something else “the love shove”… great game though.

Purely out of habit I looked for the Perry Celly when they panned the Caps bench after Neuvy stopped the final shootout attempt. And then I was sad… :(
