Braden Holtby Is Not Happy With Being Pulled (Video)

The Washington Capitals gave up three goals in the first 12 minutes of their game tonight against the Calgary Flames on Hockey Night In Canada. Braden Holtby was sensational in net. The defense was to blame on every Flames goal. Caps head coach Adam Oates did not care about this fact, however, and decided to pull Holtby after Steve Oleksy accidentally deflected a Calgary shot into his own net. We can only assume it was to jumpstart his team.

As Holtby skated off the ice, he hurled obscenities towards the bench (or, possibly, Oates). He was not a happy.

Good. He oughta be pissed, I want to hear about him ripping the defense in the locker room. This team is a complete disgrace in our zone

good first period … FOR ME TO POOP ON

  • HarmCity

Who can blame him? What kind of a goaltender would want to play behind the blueliners that play on this team on a nightly basis?

  • ilya bryzgalov

you see him motuhign a lot of “F’s” hahaha poor holtby!

  • Owen Johnson

He should be pissed! He’s the only guy wearing white who wasn’t awful in the 1st.

You pull the goalie to spark the team or put someone with a better mindset in net. Clearly this was the right decision.

I am agreement with the other commenters…They should pull a few defensemen before holtby. He was screened on all three goals and had non-existent defense being played infront of him.

  • Just_sayin3

The defense is leaving him hanging….he can’t play all the defensive positions….He needs to punch them all in the throat when they come to the locker room!

As much as I agree he should be pissed because the defense really let him down, I also agree he should be pulled for his own good. His mindset probably isn’t what it should be after that and it sends a message to the rest of the team.

It worked last time. But Holtby was pretty bad in that game. He was pretty great in this game.

  • Mike Reppenhagen

I’d be pretty irate at this team’s defensive performance, too. I just hope they don’t ruin this fine goaltender’s confidence going forward. They’re already tanking his stats.

  • VeggieTart

I agree, but it’s easier to pull your goaltender than to pull three or four defensemen who aren’t doing their jobs.

  • mariochalmers123

Oates’s reaction is perfect. He’s a good coach. Holtby was playing fine but that’s not why he was pulled (and he knows that, or should).

  • OlietheGoalie

He’ll be fine. This isn’t our Patrick Roy moment.

Show me the math that proves this is the blue line’s fault. Seems to these lying eyes that instead everyone bought into the Holtby hype prematurely and can’t admit we have as much of a goaltending issue as we do a defense line issue.

  • BPThomas

And safer, sadly. I would be all for pulling multiple d-men if it didn’t basically mean the game was over.

Pitiful 1st period and no it wasn’t Braden’s fault at all but I think it had to be done. Michal played good as well and they failed him too in the 3rd. Have to do something about this defense faster then quick, we threw away 2 points last night.
