File under news you wish you didn’t know, former Washington Capitals grinder/enforcer/paralyzer Matt Hendricks scored his first goal with his new team, the Nashville Predators, last night. Let’s just say the goal was more Ovi-esque than Hendy-ish.

As Hendricks’ skated the puck into the Coyotes’ zone, he decided – aw, what the hell - and went on a 1-on-2 like his boy Alexander Ovechkin used to do. Instead of getting fancy with the puck, Hendy just threw a good ol’ fashioned wristshot on the net. And he scored. Because why not.

Look at the replay. What a perfectly placed shot.

Sadly (or fortunately if you’re the last surviving Mike Ribeiro fan reading this site), the Coyotes won the game in a five-round shootout. Nashville deserved the loss since not one of their five shootout attempts came from Hendricks.

Hendricks hasn’t had a single opportunity to shoot so far this season, and Nashville hasn’t scored once in the skills competition. Coincidence? I think not. Then again, yeah probably. Still, Barry Trotz should be reading RMNB. Then he’d be on the up-and-up on these kinds of things.

Either way, we’re happy for Hendy. Keep those goals coming (unless playing Washington).

P.S. – Here are Hendy’s two fights so far from this season.

the goal was beautiful, the fights…..not so much.

  • Owen Johnson

It’s weird to see him in urine-color as opposed to red.

NHL.com said he got hurt in this game, that was why he couldn’t play his usual paralyzer role…

is this a Caps site or an ex-Caps site. patch your wounds and move on. there have been more articles about ex-Caps then current ones. come on.

He was destroyed on a counter hit by Morris at the start of the second period. And I mean destroyed, blown up, knocked out…landed on his face knocked out. If it weren’t a guy I liked getting planted I would say it was a beautiful hit by Morris. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/?id=473404

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. They didn’t use him in the other shootout they played earlier in the season too. Considering how much they are paying him, that’s really bizarre to me.

I don’t know why I’m answering this comment point by point, it really doesn’t deserve that, but it’s so ridiculous I have to.

    A) We will never feel intimidated or constrained by anyone else’s expectations or perceptions of what our site is or should be.
    B) I have no “wounds” about Hendy leaving. In fact, I was happy he is gone because I thought he priced himself out of DC and I thought the team could replace him with Garrett Mitchell or Michael Latta. The fact he’s gone now though doesn’t take away from the fact that he was a huge fan favorite in Washington and our readers still dearly love him.
    C) There’s been about 100+ articles on RMNB about current Caps players since the season started and about like 8 about former players. The 8 articles have gotten a bunch of traffic, which says to me “do this more.”

Anyways, I have a feeling your comment’s going to be massively down voted, but thanks for reading. [tips hat]

Thank you for covering that one. I’d have been less nice.

I got someone on Twitter the other day who told me to stick to hockey. I’m a human being interested in lots of things, and so is this website. Well, the site isn’t a human being. I guess. Whatever. You get me.

  • pixiestix

i DO still dearly love Hendy. Thanks for the article

  • brian!

Maybe it was an analogy! Stick is to Hockey as You are to _______.

  • camilla alsobrook

I’m Hendy fangirling so hard right now.

If corporations can be people, why can’t sites be too? And keep up the great articles, about all the different topics. I’m not sure how much the articles about Karl’s dogs add to the greater Caps discussion, but I know they enrich my life, & keep me coming back here.

Somewhat on-topic: one of my favorite things about this site is one post can be a fairly serious/researched/educated one (fancystats analysis, how did ovi get hurt) and the very next one can be just silly (like the dog calendars). I think there was a really good back-to-back example of this several months back, but I hadn’t registered yet.

(TLDR: keep up the good work).

  • bskillet

Wow, he really does look weird in a Pred. uniform……it sucks.

Thanks for this article! I miss Hendy and Matty P, but it’s good to see him doing well elsewhere at least!
