Through 14 games and 100 minutes on ice, Tom Wilson had yet to score an NHL point. The rookie class had started to blow by him. But Wilson had been making the most of his limited ice-time. In the Capitals’ 6-2 win over the Islanders on Tuesday night, Wilson’s hard work finally paid off.

Wilson recorded his first NHL assist in the second period. In the third, he scored his first NHL goal.

So kind of a big night for the 19-year-old.

Alex Ovechkin had sole possession of the puck in the late-game power play. With two defenders throwing shade on Ovi, all he had to do was put the puck into the slot, where Tom Wilson was charging towards Nabokov.

Speaking after the game, Caps player of the game Alex Ovechkin congratulated Wilson. “Very happy for the kid. He deserve it,” Ovechkin said to CSN’s Al Koken. “He play hard every night so congrats.”

  • About time! He’s been close on some previously so it’s nice to get the monkey off his back. But the more impressive play was the pass off his ass. Overall the team looked good across the board tonight.

Ovi doesn’t get paid for nothing.

Darn you linesmen for making Wilson lose his bid for a Gordie Howe hat trick. He was ready to dance with Carkner, but no.

Such a solid game from him tonight. He was really impressive on the forecheck, being physical and using that big frame. The goal and the assist just added to his night.

    Oh Ovi, lol.

  • Shaun Phillips

Ovi’s just slightly psychotic in this picture. Another photoshop challenge? 🙂

Hopefully this leads to him getting more ice time on the power play. Go to the dirty spots, get rewarded. And Ovi is such an underrated passer.

    Creeper Ovi. I’m in.

Oates looks brilliant for putting Wilson on the PP; great call. What a way to get your first NHL goal.

The top photo is adorable, and this one’s priceless.

  • Shaun Phillips

No Fedor and Peter look brilliant for telling him to do that and then calling the goal ahead of time. Cause Oates gets his lineup changes from RMNB, obviously.

How did you make the gif work?

Best game this season from the caps … even better than the Philly win
