Mike Ribeiro was only a rental for the Washington Capitals, acquired to fill a void as the temporary second line center. After his half season with team, he bolted for big money in Phoenix. Many Caps fans, though, still have a soft spot for Ribs and his swag. So, what does Ribeiro think of us? Well, here’s what he said the Coyotes press corps (two people) ahead of Saturday’s game.

Question: What are your thoughts on playing the Caps in general and what are the keys to beating them?

Ribeiro: Well it will be fun to play against them. It’ll be a great game to play against my old teammates. Obviously you have to keep away from the power play, stay disciplined. If you do that and push the game along you have a chance to win. Once they don’t score in the first period they sorta like to open up. But the main thing is to stay disciplined.

Question: What did you make of your time in Washington?

Ribeiro: It was great to visit the city and see the museums and stuff. I had no choice to go there, I got traded there. You just do what you have to do. It was nice to be part of. Players like Backstrom and Green and Ovi. It was a nice experience to go and see DC and live there for a year. I rather have the sun. Come here and get up with the sun every morning.

Who had a soft spot for him? I always thought he was kinda douchey on the ice.

  • Denis Carmo

We don’t like him anymore, right?

  • Did we like him before?

  • PleaseKillMe

I like him because he is so skinny with deep, dark eyes. Looks like a crack head, but happens to be a skilled athlete.

I may be outing myself as in to youth culture here, but does anyone else get a white rapper feel from Ribs here? The straight brim and the smirk make me kind of sick to my stomach, to be honest.

    No I didn’t

Damn, Ribs. We got you that Phoenix contract. At the very least you could have sent us a nice fruit basket or something.

Black style makes you sick to your stomach? Racist.

  • OlietheGoalie

His response is a PR-friendly one. Nothing to see here.

Whoa, back up a bit with throwing the race card.

  • Priscilla Villanueva

I did, but I am admittedly pretty ghetto.

To steal Peter’s term, I did like his swag. Always like seeing different personalities on the team. Makes it fun. Probably my fave thing about his play style was when he would calm the puck down in chaos.
