Michal Neuvirth has started the last three Caps games, inserting himself back into the Capitals goalie picture after not playing for a month and requesting a trade on December 29th. In the last week, Neuvirth has made big save after big save, keeping a defensively inept Caps team capably backstopped in all three starts. The team went 1-1-1 in those games.

Early in the third period of Tuesday’s game against the Islanders, Neuvirth showed off some fantastic lateral movement, robbing Frans Nielsen on a clear one-timer.

Watch as Neuvy spins on his back like he’s a turtle.

Neuvy has saved 92 out of 103 shots in his three consecutive starts. You have to think he’s earned another start against Winnipeg Thursday.

Was absolutely stellar tonight. The pad save on Vanek was a beauty too.

Don’t worry guys, Ryan Miller will solve all the problems with this team.

Also stellar job by the Czech Republic leaving Neuvy off the Olympic team

Kind of a bummer we wasted 2 of Neuvy’s best starts in a long time.

  • VeggieTart

I would be ridiculously optimistic if I said I expected GMGM to say, “Okay, maybe I was wrong, and goaltending is not the problem.”

  • Aaron

I can understand them not taking him – he wasn’t playing. I’d say more like stellar job Oates robbing Neuvirth of his chance to go to the Olympics. I had him and Pavalec as sure things for the Czech team at the start of the season.

    “Save of the year”

  • I thought I saw Nielson give him an acknowledging whack on the pads after the whistle too. Great save.

As I have said before, there are two types of deal for Ryan Miller, one horrible, unthinkable and one not so horrible. If GMGM is picking up Miller as a renalt to unload Neuvy and bad contracts like brower/laich/erat than its a not so horrible deal. Will it make a difference this season? No way. But this season is lost anyway. If hes trading prospects or picks in a despiration move then its a horrible move and I will cry.

  • I’d say that paying any goalie $6M+ is horrible, a priori.

Neuvy is totally a Michelangelo, Ian is a Leonardo, and Peter is a Raphael.
Thus concludes my segment on very clearly and unashamedly revealing myself to be a child of the early 90s

I literally yelled F*&%! right before confusion swept over me… “did he seriously just make that save?!” Incredible.

I’ve always had one question about the Turtles… What are the masks for?

  • Diller M

I agree 100% but for 25 games that don’t mean anything I’m ok with it if the end result were dumped salary.

  • If BUF is that foolish, hell yeah. I doubt it though.

  • It was a kid’s show, so I assume they did the color-coordinated-eye-hole-mask-thing so that you could identify who each one was. Which is brilliantly simple by the way.

  • Barrett

If Buffalo is rebuilding, why take on old guys like Laich, Brouwer or Erat…?? I assume they want draft picks and prospects.

  • Barrett

…but they did include two guys over the age of 40:

    Petr Nedvěd and Jaromír Jágr.

  • RT23

Sorry, I guess I needed an irony symbol of some sort. I’m sure you’re riight that that is why the creators of the cartoon did it. I was staying within the reality of the show. Are we supposed to think that they were concealing their identity somehow or were they supposed to not stand out without the mask? I mean, if you were walking down the street and saw a 6 ft tall turtle coming the other way, and he wasn’t wearing a mask (or I guess carrying a sword or nun-chucks) would you nod, smile and not think anything of it?

  • Diller M

I just can’t see any other way the money works. And they may want some veteran leadership

  • Barrett

I would agree, but it’s reported and rumored that all or most of the veteran leadership currently on the roster (Miller, Ott, Moulson, McCormick and Tallinder) are all on the trade block. I think they are on the path the Capitals took when they unloaded Bondra, Gonchar, etc.

  • salgotnv

Does that mean Fedor is Raphael?

  • Shawn Murphy

works for me. But who the heck is Master Splinter?
