For those of you wondering what to make of Dustin Penner, these next few weeks should be interesting. In addition to crashing the net, after finding out he was traded to Washington for a fourth round pick on Tuesday, the winger asked Barack Obama if he could crash on his couch.

We haven’t had any luck with Barry, but maybe Penner is the missing piece– for both a Stanley Cup and maybe an Obama appearance at a Caps game.

I say big O lets him, and then maybe Penner can convince him to finally come to a game?

He really should make a more official request: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions

Honestly I moved from the DC area , but I could care less if Obama came to a Caps game, If I were attending I would be more upset about how much increased security would delay things.

You pass, Penner! Welcome to the team!

I’m all about growing the sport (because I love it) and having the first African American president at a hockey game could do a ton of good, especially in this area.

    now that’s disturbing

    OBAMA PROMISED!

  • Steve

Does penner not know that obama doesnt give two shits about hockey unless it’s chicago winning a stanley cup?

I love RMNB and you and I just played for a W in Frederick with Droo….. but I hope Obama never steps foot in the Verizon Center for a hockey game! How does this grow our sport? If it’s about Afican Americans we have Joel Ward and he represents! He reps Hockey!

  • Pete

Where can I order my Penner jersey?

  • Donnie

‘Obama Derangement Syndrome’ being displayed on RMNB? True, the security would increase at any event where the sitting President appears, especially when ODS is on display. However, having any President at a sporting event is a big deal. Also, the President is from Chicago, so I hope that he does support the Blackhawks. Like every other person who is a transplant from other areas into DC. You understand that there are ‘1a’ and ‘1b’ teams that are supported.

Lastly, the President could make an unannounced visit, like Bush 43 use to do with the Nats, so security would not be increased. However, with ODS in the general populace, security would probably need to be increased due to someone jumping the fence to display their ODS.

Already like this guy. PANCAKES FOR EVERYONE!!!

    Joel Ward is Canadian.

If this happens, I hope they let us know. I’ll be sure to sell my tickets for this game. It already takes forever to get into the game since they are already completely inefficient with the required wanding they put into place a couple years ago. I can only imagine what it would be like with POTUS there. No thanks.

ODS, of course, can best be defined as being “foursquare against Obama and his policies…whatever those policies might be…”, even (especially?) if the sufferer was strongly in favor of those same policies under a different (read: GOP) Presidency.

Whether you lean left or right, the whole problem with politics today is that too many of those in power give greater weight to the provenance of an idea than they do to the actual merits of that same idea.
