October 30, 1993. It was a Saturday. Clinton was President. Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover” was in its final day as the number one song in the country. (Meat Loaf’s “I Would Do Anything For Love” would take over the next day.) Fox TV had just entered its first year broadcasting every day, airing The X-Files just one night earlier (a pretty meh episode if you ask me). That “Got Milk?” commercial with the guy with peanut-butter mouth aired for the first time a night before. The Nightmare Before Christmas had just debuted in theaters and Tim Burton had already begun hoarding credit. River Phoenix died.

And the Washington Capitals beat the Sharks for the last time in San Jose.

On Saturday, March 22nd, the Capitals will return to San Jose hoping to snap their 21-year slump. And we’ll be watching from RFD Washington. Won’t you join us?

That’s right: At long last, here comes #RMNBParty6!

RSVP for #RMNBParty6 on Facebook!

WHO: If you’re 21 or older, hopefully you! Plus the RMNB crew and a couple hundred other Caps fans.

WHAT: A viewing party for Washington Capitals at San Jose Sharks.

WHERE: RFD Washington, 810 7th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 —  just one block from Verizon Center!

WHEN: Saturday, March 22. 8:30 PM until whenever. The game starts at 10:30 PM.

WHY: Well, that’s a bit complicated…

For starters, we haven’t thrown a party since June of 2012. Second, we need a little levity near the end of this downer of a season. Third, we’ve done a lot of growing in the last two years and we want to see all your lovely faces. (Ian wants to hug you; I do not). Fourth, who cares why? It’s Saturday. You don’t need an excuse to party! Let’s party!

We’ll be tweeting from the game, shooting video, covering the game, and a lot more silly stuff. It’ll all be on the #RMNBParty6 hashtag.

If you’re not familiar, RFD is a terrific bar right in the heart of Chinatown. They’ve got a huge beer selection and some serious tater tots. The good people at RFD have been nice enough to let us use their back room for the party. That’s exactly where we’ll be, making merry, watching the game, cheering on the boys, and maybe even setting up some more RMNB love connections.

Past RMNB parties have become the stuff of legend. This one will be no different. Get yourself in your Caps gear (or maybe an RMNB t-shirt </shamelessplug>), and get your behind to RFD on Saturday night. Let’s crash the net together. Let’s watch the Caps snap this stupid streak together.

Everyone 21 or older is invited. If you’re a Caps fan, you are invited. Even if you’re a Bruins fan,  you are invited.  If you drink awful InBev beer, you are invited. If you are a teetotaler, you are invited. If you are a housebound agraphobe, you are invited. If you wear a fanny pack, you are invited. If you don’t like the word rego, you are invited. If you blog for another site, you are invited.

This means you: You are invited.

See you there.

To all our underage friends: we still love you. We promise to throw an all-ages party soon. In the meantime, we’re open to the idea of a meet-up/hangout before the party. Perhaps dinner at The Greene Turtle? What do you think?

  • Owen Johnson

OF COURSE it’s on a night I already have plans. Decisions!

  • Seriously. Under-21 readers – do you want to hang out with us for dinner before the party?

  • araporrada21

    Another reason to visit DC.

  • Joe

What if you do not have facebook??

  • Owen Johnson

I DO feel like I need to bring the #PerryCelly cutouts. I guess I can do both.

  • You come to the party anyways?

But really, you should have Facebook, if only because we’re on there and it’s a party.

  • DashingDave314

    If I wasn’t running a 5K Sunday morning, I’d definitely be there!

  • Harjot Singh

Welp im sure this isnt going to be a party for 15 year olds 😉

  • Shawn Murphy

REGOphobes invited? HAVE WE NO STANDARDS?!

  • Sarah

I may actually be able to come to this one!

  • Igor Kleyner

“October 30, 1993. It was a Saturday. Clinton was President….” I was younger than Ian is now!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that’s a good benchmark!

  • Priscilla Villanueva

Guys – looks for me in the 6th row behind the caps bench. 🙂

  • Zach S.

    YES, depending on the time.

  • Like 6 or so?

  • Nicci

  • Brouwer Rangers

  • Brouwer Rangers

That’s supposed to start at 1:02. Stupid technology.

  • I need at least like 20 more people to respond though for us to make it worth it. K? K.

  • Hockey mom

Oh man! This sounds fun, but :

    A. I have out of town guests
    B. It’s way past my bedtime
    C. I have to be at Kettler at some ungodly time the next morning for my kids
    D. All of the above

Have a great time! I’ll try to make it to the next one…

  • Simonezero

I might have to crawl away from my desk for this.

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaaaay jambo jambo

  • Patrick Neimeyer

Even If there is a remote possibility I can see Peter doing a kegstand and Fedor drinking some harsh vodka shooters, I am there…

  • selftitled85

I like beer. I like hockey. This sounds like a happy mixing of two of my favorite things.

  • Matthew Burdash

I live in New Jersey. Who’s letting me crash on their couch?

  • Hockey mom

Remind them that we REALLY need this win!!

  • Stephen Chastain

Okay I guess I can be talked into beer and hockey….

  • I haven’t done a kegstand since like 05

  • Patrick Neimeyer

With all of these season-long frustrations, I expect your tolerance to still by sky high, even if you can’t manage the pump n’ chug….

  • Myan

Aw I really wish that we could make this but unfortunately we’re in Nashville 🙁 We’re moving to Alexandria May 1st so we’ll bring Tennessee whiskey for the next one!

  • early 2006

  • Party at Ashby

  • So the circle logo – it’s a coaster. Everybody gets that right? See the beer bottle ring on it?

  • because it’s a 10:30 game, and basketball should start at like 2pm or something silly, and the 2nd round of the tourney is split into 2 days, there is something like a (fancy stats fancy stats carry the pi) pretty good possibility that i will be there! woooo is FINALLY party now

Ironically, conflicts with my son’s hockey banquet. Let’s hope the Caps do it — the last time they won in San Jose, I was attending college in the Bay Area and as, my alumni magazine reminds me, it was a long, long time ago. Have fun storming the castle!

  • Diller M

Lol I def recognize peeps in that picture

  • Let’s turn that “might” into a “definitely definitely will” 😀
