Selfies With Pierre McGuire Are The Best Selfies

Nice beard. (Photo: @n_menz8)

When Ellen DeGeneres took a bunch of selfies with stars during the Oscars, it seemed like an organic thing (it wasn’t). The event put selfies on a national stage. Since then, they’ve gone from something teh kids and Mark Ruffalo do– to something your parents do to be cool and oh my gawd mom like I can’t believe you just did that. Some companies have exploited the technique for self-promotion. (Samsung, I’m wagging my finger here. Billy Bush.. just.. no.)

So can we take the selfie back and make it cool again? Some hockey fans have taken the first step by taking selfies with that paragon of cool, Pierre McGuire, during the playoffs.

Look how happy Pierre is. He really just enjoys what he does and the attention he receives from his fans. Deep down, I really think I do love this man.

Maybe not as much as P.K. Subban though.

This is awesome. Also unrelated but can we start to sweat a little that the Caps are taking their sweet time? From Dreger: “Expect the Vancouver Canucks to finally name Jim Benning as their new GM later this week. Hiring coach will be next. Trotz high on the list.”

  • Adam

Yeah, Ted is blowing this. Not that I’m surprised. Benning to Vancouver was a foregone conclusion, but we really needed Laviolette or Trotz.

    you misspelled “paragon of dork”

  • AloeCap10

Agreed. Ted had completely forgotten about the Caps while the Wizards were in their playoffs and now it might be too late to get any of the top candidates. Its a shame he probably cost the caps Grabovski and a rash of free agents. Not a good start to this off season…

Further proof that the real problem in the organization is the owner.

My opinion of Pierre was vastly improved during the Olympics this year.

  • Clint Petty

Pierre is a creepy alien man who knows too many random facts about everyone on planet Earth. His clone army of cyborg P-McG’s must be feeding him information.

DOES THIS NOT CONCERN ANYONE ELSE!?

  • yv

Selfies maybe good, but I’ll feel much better if PMg would be selected as Pens GM, so we will get a break on TV from all these phrases like “how great Crosby is, etc.”

A riot is an ugly thing.

Pierre Maguire is the reason the mute button was created. Keep those kids away from him.

Well, this is the Caps organization right now. And that’s Bylsma’s right hand.

  • Sarah

The townspeople did have a point, after all. Notwithstanding that, I do have faith that everything will work out.
    To the lumberyard!

  • VeggieTart

    Maybe he was being facetious?

    YES

  • Sarah

Nah, Ian totally worships Pierre. We need to crowdfund a trip to New York for him so he can get one himself.
I would pay money to see that.

  • Sarah

Mine was not. But I have to admit that these pictures, and his reaction to P.K. Subban’s antics, are starting to soften me up a bit. #squishy

I do think that old Ted’s (and managements) thoughts and plans for the organization recently have been a bit Abby Normal. So can you blame us for going all rioty-townspeople?

Oh my gosh I don’t know how serious you’re being, but!!!! About a year ago I found an NHL Vault game where the broadcast was apparently preempted, the announcers sat around waiting to see whether they’d end up going live, and Pierre McGuire took the opportunity to do play by play for kicks, and it was hilarious. Obviously no one had any expectation that anything they said would ever be aired. Plus, I’m a Wings fan (sorry), and I get a complete kick out of watching commentate from a slot at the Joe that has now shrunk to pretty much the width of the red line. Like, the workspace he gets between the glass in Pittsburgh legit looks like an NYC apartment in comparison. But he just doggedly smiles through the whole thing, never complains, and while I find him pretty ludicrous and cringeworthy most of the time, I’ve also grown so fond of him, like he’s an embarrassing uncle or something.

…sorry for the word vomit. This is just the first time I’ve ever seen someone say something almost nice about him, see.

  • Rhino40

Maybe then they’ll put Milbury Inside The Glass…where he can be hit in the noggin by a stray puck…
Oh well, we can dream, can’t we?

  • Rhino40

    Well played, Ian….well played.

  • Rhino40

    hahahaha)))) best!
