It never ends, and I’m sorta okay with that. Today in #ALSIceBucketChallenge news, Capitals coach Barry Trotz and fashion maven Joe Beninati took the plunge. Monumental Network video’d the whole thing. It’s quite a production.

The promotion so far has raised over $40 million to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Participants who get dumped on donate $10; those who fail to meet the challenge (e.g. me) donate $100.

I mention this because I consider what Joe and Barry did cheating. They dipped into the pool right after they got soaked, which means they were only chilly for like two seconds, tops. That’s not enough. So I think they should pony up another $90. Your thoughts?

Pretty pictures below.

UPDATE 4:45 PM: Caps Media Relations Manager Page Sagester says there was no cheating involved.

We are unable to confirm the report as we have not yet been invited to swim in the Caps’ hot cold tub.

Original post follows.

The dumpers were Steve Oleksy and John Carlson:

Finally, here’s the PuckBuddys, totally stealing my bit:

Knowing of Trotz’s involvement with “good causes” in Nashville, I suspect he’s made a sizable donation. I’ll assume with same with Beninati – cause he’s a good guy too.

“lets find a cure for ALS…and shrinkage” lol, love Joe B, the season needs to start already, August is the worst

Those dudes have maybe 10.5 feet of height between them. How much more could they shrink?

    Oh, you mean…

    Nevermind.

Hope the fact that he’s still around DC means Binky is going to get a solid look during camp. I realize he’s probably the odd man out with 8 d-men already on the roster, but I can’t help but think he’s the kind of guy Trotz would love to have around.

I believe it. I know the Bears have what their trainer calls a “Honey I Shrunk The Kids” tub just like it in their facilities at the Giant Center in Hershey…saw it on a tour last season. It wouldn’t surprise me that the Caps would have one too.

  • VeggieTart

    It still was hilarious.

  • Graham Dumas

Yeah, plus I think you can see ice floating in the water in the pre-dump shot from Sergey Kocharev’s tweet.

  • Bilal

Wait what does he mean by shrinka——oh

  • Owen Johnson

I’ve stood next to both of them. I was amazed Trotz had that much height on anyone… until I found out it was Joe B. I just got challenged for this. Just curious, have you guys been challenged yet? Just curious…

  • Sarah

Trotz is all class, I can’t imagine him cheating at anything. But that SCHEMING Joe B, now…
(Because this is the interwebs, the second statement is hereby labeled a joke.

  • Ugh

RMNB jumping to conclusions about something? NEVER

  • Sarah

Er… I guess Peter needs to start labeling his jokes, too, unless he intended to impugn their characters seriously.
Which does sound like the kind of reckless well poisoning that ne’er-do-well would get up to. A complete biter, which is why I never read his stuff. I don’t like his face or his bulldog, either.

If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin’

  • Sarah

Dammit! I knew I was doing something wrong.

  • Sarah

On that note, I guess I’m up for an MLB game any time. ;) Maybe I’ll rob a 7-11 to pay for the tickets, too.

    Re: Cold Tub

the cold tub is well known to me. after a rugby game and a quick hot shower (seriously, quick, don’t need to heat up anything anymore), jumping into the cold tub helps with muscle repair and growth. you don’t stay there all that long. that interview was longer than most of my stays in the cold tub.

Just wait until you see Todd Rierden (the defensive coach who came over from Pittsburgh). I know I’m vertically challenged, but this dude is TALL.
