On Saturday, Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov was originally scheduled to be apart of DCPS Beautification Day. Instead, he was in Toronto figure skating.

Yeah, uhhhhh. Let me explain somewhat.

Kuznetsov flew to Canada along with fellow Caps rookie Andre Burakovsky to take part in the NHLPA Rookie Showcase. Every year, the best prospects from around the NHL gather together, this time at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly known as Maple Leaf Gardens) in Canada, to take photos for their first NHL trading cards and do other promotional activities for NHLPA partners.

So why was Kuzya and Burra holding hands with fellow prospects and skating around in a circle?

That I do not know, but they weren’t the only ones to get their Scott Hamilton on.

Nice form there by #48 in red.

Kuznetsov and Burakovsky were also snapped by Upper Deck and the NHLPA doing other actives during the day.

Looks like we have a brand new type of “ice bucket challenge”

Maaan I really wanted to go to this, but of course my dumb*** does what it does best. Sleep in

Is that Burakovsky & Kuzya on the ice together with the other Russians practicing in black?? Makes me soooo excited!

  • Alex

You’re telling me, I live 15 minutes away and didn’t even know this was going down…

  • Yup!

Not sure my original post went through, but I almost missed this. Both
Caps are wearing their white helmets with their red sweaters. Clearly a
deviation from what we would call the norm. With the exception of Florida and Buffalo, All the other rookies seem to be wearing their clubs’ standard home attire. Does this mean we will see white domes at home this season for the Caps?! A simple equipment issue? I really hope it’s the latter.

Came to mind that last season SKA St. Petersburg brought in a professional figure skater to run a practice. Some players struggled. Alexei Ponikarovsky struggled a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ste3wYpgow4

    Toe pick

  • Sage Confucius

Because that’s what Brian Boitano would do!

48 in red with the nice form is Ryan Sproul. He was the Wings 2nd round pick in 2011. He’s a big body dman (6’4 200) and hoping he gets some ice time with the Wings this year. Supposed to be a stud on the offensive side and have some great potential on the d-side.

That first image is the rare Circle Flirt, seen in the wild.

Isn’t that Burakovsky in the middle there on the second to last pic? He’s not Russian.
