Submit Questions to Andrew Gordon For Upcoming Q/A Post

This week, RMNB’s gonna be on hiatus. But while we’re away, please submit us questions for an upcoming Fan Q/A post with Andrew Gordon on RMNB’s Facebook Fan Page here. We’ll be taking your best questions and shooting them over to Gordo to answer. One question he’s already agreed to respond to is this:

tfirey – Gordo: I have a lot of questions about how pro athletes train (as it’s a world that I’ll never know — alas!) Can you tell us what you do in your workouts? Are any exercises hockey-specific, as opposed to standard endurance and strength-building? How does your routine change throughout the year?

I was always wondering that too. Welp, you guys have a great week. We’ll be back in no time!

This Year’s Hot Summer Jam: Capitals Boyz by Lucy Brown

Sometimes there are moments when I check out the other talented writers in the Caps Blogosphere and am just absolutely blown away. And readers, this is one of those moments. A week ago, I noticed that Lucy Brown, the maven behind the blog “Hockey Is My Boyfriend,” came up with lyrics parodying Katy Perry’s “California Gurls.” The parody, which has an effusively positive tone unlike most HIMB posts (see: Sing Us A Song You Drunk Jerkface & The Dissection of Bad Jeans), combines everything I love all in one song: The Capitals, humor & random nudity.

It should go without saying, but if any of you can record or film this for us, you will be rewarded handsomely. I’d ask Peter, but he doesn’t look good in candy-themed three-part suits.

So without further adieu, please check out this year’s hot, new summer anthem: Capitals Boyz. Start that beat up, my nizzle.

Ovi Says Hello From Moscow In “Female Streaking” T-Shirt

Alex Ovechkin in his Female Streaking T-Shirt

Look we here at RMNB idolize Alex Ovechkin. But in this video via Alyonka Larionov, we’re a bit confused on Ovi’s wardrobe selection. Sure, maybe we’re not being open-minded enough or maybe we long for the days when Ovi’s T-Shirts were a bit more family-friendly. But we’d love to know what you think of it. At least we know now who Ovi’s new shopping partner is.

(Note: This shirt was part of a Abercrombie & Fitch t-shirt line and apparently Ovi’s worn it before.)

Leap Towards a Cure Charity Hockey Tournament

Abram Fox, friend of the blog and contributor to the DC Sports Box, recently wrote to us asking if we could promote the Leap Towards a Cure Charity Hockey Tournament happening this Friday and Saturday at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD. As a former art student myself, Abram’s story below particularly affected me. If any of you are free this weekend, I highly encourage you to attend the event and give to a great cause.

Earlier this year the local youth hockey community lost an unsung hero when Andrea “Froggy” Henderson, long-time art teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD, passed away from complications from breast cancer. For three decades Froggy inspired students with her open heart and open mind, encouraging them to reach their fullest potential and opening her classroom to anyone who needed a safe haven or shoulder to lean on.

RMNB’s First Year Party: A Recap In Photos

Samantha Casey, Horn Guy, Ian Oland of RMNB & Wes Johnson Pose For a Photo at RMNBs First Year PartySam, Sam, Ian, and Wes Pose For a Photo at RMNB’s First Year Party. Photo by Jesse Vaughan

A Heartfelt Thank You: Over the last nine months, RMNB has taken away valuable time I could have spent with my closest friends or family. Honestly, I haven’t always enjoyed the late nights of writing, the five Diet Pepsi’s to get through the day or trekking across the tri-state area just to meet one person or get one photo.

But everything changed Saturday night when I met RMNB’s readers. You all are so fun, so passionate, and so dedicated. You showed us what it means to be a true Caps fan, and I feel so blessed that we have carved-out a place where you can all respectfully obsess with us.

At final count, over 150 fans of the blog gathered at Front Page Arlington to simply meet each other and have a good time. We gave you a great excuse to spend your money for a good cause; Samantha Casey’s charity Love146. At the end of the night, you were all gracious enough to donate almost $900 towards it. And yeah, some awesome prizes didn’t hurt either!

Simply put, you are all such inspiring people. You constantly encourage some of my closest friends: Peter, Neil, Fedor, Kyle and Addison – to write insightful, creative, funny pieces about your favorite hockey team. We do this because you are so receptive, so responsive, and just so danged nice. Saturday night was really just a giant thank you to all of you for participating in a blog that has evolved from being more than just a hobby (that I do in my sweatpants). We eagerly look forward to this October and maybe – if we’re lucky – our 2nd Anniversary party can be in June.

Well, with that said, let’s relive the mayhem that was last Saturday Night.

Barack Obama To Attend A Washington Capitals Game Next Year

mysticsPhoto by Ned Dishman/NBAE via Getty Images

All those that thought President Obama would attend a Caps game before physicists figure out how to teleport an object all the way across the galaxy, please step forward to claim your prize. Wait a minute, everyone, not so fast…

All hope is not lost. The Washington Post’s new Caps beat reporter Katie Carrera informed us that Barack Obama attended yesterday’s Washington Mystics game at the Verizon Center. Those of us here at Barack The Red were instantly filled with heartbreak.

Russian Machine Never Breaks: The Party

Front Page Arlington

Front Page Arlington

What makes a good party? Drink specials, good food, and great friends.  If you throw in a sashed pageant-winner, signed Caps gear, and the lovely facilities of Front Page Arlington, you’re entering Great Party territory.  That’s RMNB’s First Year Party for you.

Here are the deets. At 6PM, the doors of our party will open to the huddled masses.  Hopefully, we’ll keep everyone properly entertained until 12:30am – or whenever Michael Jenkins shows up and saves us after SportsNite. This party is an all-ages affair, but attendees under the age of 21 will have their hands X’ed in classic D.C. tradition.

There will be no underage drinking at the party. Front Page is doing us a solid by letting us hang out, so we’re going to follow their rules.  Besides, we can’t have people thinking our readers are a bunch of loudmouthed buffons.  That’s our reputation, and we’ve worked too hard to let you usurp it.

Front Page is gracious enough to let us occupy the Back Bar and the Atrium as well. Let’s show them the proper respect for allowing us to run our victory lap in their fine establishment.  Would have been a lot more fun if we had a Stanley Cup with us…

How about the food? The Front Page has created a special burger just for the party. For $9.99, you will be able to eat the Ovie Burger, which I can only assume will include Russian Dressing, 8 pickles & a spicy dipping sauce made from the tears of Max Talbot. If you’re saving your hard-earned money for the raffle, the Front Page will also be offering Happy Hour specials until 8pm. Check it out:

Rejected Invitation For RMNB’s First Year Party

Rejected Invitation for RMNB First Year Party

A good idea gone terribly, terribly wrong. (Sketch by Ian Oland)

Next Question: Bruce Boudreau

A sugary-voiced Brooks Laich and a booty-short’ed Matt Bradley interview Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau below and ask the tough questions. You know, like “Are we going to get resigned next year?” and “Who’s a better dresser between you or Alex Ovechkin?” Finally, was that a nod to the sentiments of Barack The Red at the end there?

Friend of the Blog, Suzanne Kang is a big Caps Fan. She also lives in Virginia. With these two requirements satiated, she’s fit to guest-write for our blog. Today, the Washington Captials hosted a blood drive for Inova Blood Donor Services in Sterling, VA. Here’s a recap of her day.

I’ve donated blood a time or two, both on my own and through blood drives. So suffice to say, I was expecting the usual: go in to a room full of stations, get stuck by a needle, watch Ian cry, get my blood drained, get a cool colored bandage and sticker, drink juice and eat cookies and go home. While the process of the actual blood donation was pretty much the same, there was one big difference.
