Jay Beagle was the Capitals hero once again.
The Regal Beagle scored the Caps’ lone tally — a third period goal with 5:41 left in the game — during Friday night’s 1-0 snoozer against Detroit. It was Jay Beagle’s second game-winning goal in November and the eighth of his nine-year NHL career.
The goal was a masterpiece, if you count falling over and whacking at a rebound a masterpiece.
The best moment of Tuesday’s generally bad Caps-Rangers game was Alex Ovechkin’s goal by way of Nate Schmidt’s pass. It was Ovechkin’s 6th goal of the season, Schmidt’s first point, and occasion to celebrate with an intense hug.
On September 9th, EA Sports will release the latest edition of their hockey franchise, NHL15. With the game jumping up to the more-powerful Xbox One and Playstation 4 consoles this year, video game designers at Electronic Arts could finally push some parts of the franchise that have been lagging for a long time.
For Washington Capitals fans, that means an impeccably designed Verizon Center, the Rock The Red logo literally everywhere, and a few pesky Penguins fans invading the arena during rivalry games.

On Tuesday night, as Mikhail Grabovski got the claws out with Zach Smith and an angry Cory Conacher tried to literally separate Eric Fehr’s head from his torso, Erik Karlsson and a late-arriving Mike Green embraced each other at center ice like long-lost bros. Instead of getting involved in the fracas, the two offensive defenseman caught up and enjoyed their front row seats to some hockey carnage. Wouldn’t you?
