As the world settled in to watch Thursday’s women’s final between USA and Canada, word came from Arlington that Alex Ovechkin‘s father Mikhail had undergone heart surgery earlier in the week. As of now, Mikhail Ovechkin, 62, is out of intensive care. Capitals GM George McPhee told the press that Ovechkin’s heart issues began after Russia’s prelim game against Slovakia last weekend.

As Papa Ovechkin is on the mend, we’re asking for your help in wishing him a speedy recovery. We need the Ovi Daddy back in the stands as soon as he’s able, taking bad cell phone photos, speaking in gleefully broken English, maybe not sneaking anymore smokes on F Street during intermissions. And we need his son, firm in knowing his pops is doing well, back on US soil and focused on the ice.

So make us a card. Make it heartfelt. Make it awesome. Do it in MS Paint or Photoshop or some new crazy technology we’ve never even heard of. If you’re not an artist, write us a Get Well Soon message. Leave it all the comments; we’ll make sure the right people see it.

And from us at Russian Machine Never Breaks, Выздоравливайте!
