Over the last few years, Inova Blood Donor Services has held seasonal blood drives at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Each time, you guys come out in full force to help the community (you’re cool like that) and get the special perks that come with it. Not only do you help save a life, you also get a Caps player bobblehead and a t-shirt.
The next scheduled blood drive is on Saturday, December 6th. Tuesday night, Caps radio announcer John Walton released an image of the next bobblehead to be given out. It’s not a player.
It’s new Caps head coach Barry Trotz!
The last time the Caps made a bobblehead for a coach was Bruce Boudreau. Bobbling bench boss Bruce Boudreau was not blobby, he was skinny. Wearing a dead sexy black suit and holding the Jack Adams’ trophy, the bobblehead captured the real-life Boudreau right after he was named coach of the year.
This Trotz bobblehead is, um, a bit more realistic.
Bobbling Barry has a tummy (too much comfort food during the five-game losing streak?) and is wearing a red Capitals track suit, which is what I think the real-life Trotz sleeps in at night.
I love that we’re past honoring guys like Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom in plaster. Now we can celebrate the less-heralded, less-appreciated guys. Great. I know how this story ends. It ends with a ceramic Joe B. on my desk at home, dressed to the nines.
11/7 Update: The Caps have released two more photos of the bobblehead.
