Caps at Islanders Pregame: Ovi’s a Game-Time Decision for Number 700

isles

The New York Islanders are really good, and the Washington Capitals lost their last game to the Buffalo Sabres. The Caps’ best possession player is sidelined with injury, and the Isles are gonna start a goalie who is 100-percent comfortable going up against his old team.

This would be a big road win if the Caps can pull it off. 7 PM on CSN Plus. Your boy Chris Gordon will be covering the game for RMNB solo.

Peter’s Book Recommendation: The Last Policeman

policeman_winner-cover_Layout 1

I just finished Ben H. Winters’ Last Policeman series, and I heartily recommend you give it a read. I picked it up thinking I was going to get a pulpy, hardboiled detective novel with a scifi backdrop, and instead I got something grander and more thoughtful and more fun than that.

Henry Palace is a newly made detective in Concord, New Hampshire, which sounds like a nice gig except there’s an asteroid a few months away from killing nearly everyone on the planet. When all the policemen on the force think the dead body found in the McDonalds bathroom is just another in an epidemic of suicides, Palace suspects murder. More than just a larger mystery, his investigation reveals something about human kindness and duty and purpose.

The Last Policeman is the first of three books– each of them bracingly paced and each of them clever as hell. Even if the Soren Kierkegaard, Private Eye angle doesn’t grab you, the vitality of Winters’ writing will make the read worth your time– however much of it you have left.
