Monday morning, the Washington Capitals released the cover of their new dog calendar and it looks great. Featuring a collage of Caps with cute dog…hey, wait a second.

Why is Mike Green holding a cat on the cover of a dog calendar? Can we zoom a little bit more here?
And why does that cat look so mortified? You would think it’d be happy to be in the loving arms of such a noted stud muffin.
Anyways, this precious calendar will be available to purchase tomorrow and 100% of the proceeds will benefit Homeward Trails (which is awesome). And one other note: you should always adopt a new pet. I have the cutest kitten ever and I got her through a local Frederick County shelter. I couldn’t imagine my life without her now.
The 2015 Caps Canine Calendar will be available to purchase beginning Tuesday, Dec. 2, with one hundred percent of proceeds benefitting Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.
The calendar will be available online at WashingtonCaps.com, at the MSE Foundation table outside of section 104 on the main concourse and at the Team Store at Verizon Center during Caps home games and at the Team Store at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
This calendar features photos of Capitals players Karl Alzner, Jay Beagle, Troy Brouwer, John Carlson, Jack Hillen, Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik, Justin Peters, Aaron Volpatti and Joel Ward with their dogs and Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky, Braden Holtby, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson with dogs from Homeward Trails. It also features Mike Green with his cats, as Homeward Trails also has kittens and cats available for adoption. The photo shoot took place in October at Potomac Regional Overlook Park in Arlington, Va.
There are a limited number of 2015 Caps Canine Calendars available and each will cost $20. The Caps Better Halves will help sell the calendars during the month of December at the MSE Foundation table.
Homeward Trails Animal Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Homeward Trails seeks to find permanent adoptive homes in the Mid-Atlantic Region for dogs and cats from high-kill shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. They seek to reduce the rate of euthanasia of adoptable animals through the rescue and placement of homeless animals; to support proactive spay/neuter practices; to promote positive and ongoing behavioral training; and to educate the public about how to care for their animals in a humane way. Homeward Trails not only facilitates adoptions from local shelters, but also supports a large network of foster care providers who take homeless dogs and cats into their homes, care for them, rehabilitate them when needed, and prepare them for their permanent adoptive homes.
