While Alex Ovechkin did not have his strongest showing in the Breakaway Challenge, he was awesome in the Hardest Shot competition. Ovechkin posted his fastest attempt ever, 101.4 MPH, which he accomplished twice.
Attempt 1

Attempt 2

This is pretty darn good for a “muffin” of a shot.
Now flex.

Ovechkin nearly won the whole darn event too. Dustin Byfuglien bombed and Shea Weber missed the entire net on his first attempt. Unfortunately, the Preds defenseman rebounded on his second shot, recording an unfathomable 108.5 MPH to win the competition.
Regardless, what Ovechkin accomplished is pretty damn cool.

It’s the fastest time a Capitals player has registered since Al Iafrate and his skull mullet won the competition two years in a row (105.2 MPH in 1993, 102.7 MPH in 1994). It’s also the first time a Capitals player has gone over 100 since Iafrate.
Way to go, Ovi.
