For anyone who has ever called Mike Green “soft,” the apology line forms to the left.
Late in the third period, after the Caps had a 4-0 lead, Green put an exclamation point on the Caps’ victory over the defending Cup champions by checking Kyle Clifford into the Caps bench.
Look at this and marvel.
Observe Clifford as he slides over the laps of Caps players, stopping only when his skates hit the glass. Incredible.
Joe Beninati lost his mind calling the hit.
“Off the turnbuckle and down!”
Green was his typically mellow self when discussing the hit after the game: “I was just hoping he wasn’t gonna hit any of our players.”
