Report: George McPhee Seeks Permission From Washington to Speak With Assistant GM Ross Mahoney

BMacRossMahoney Draft

Friday afternoon, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman tweeted out something rather interesting and possibly troubling.

Ross Mahoney was first hired to Washington by George McPhee and spent 16 years working with him. Mahoney currently serves as the Assistant General Manager under Brian MacLellan and the head of the entire amateur scouting department. The draft is basically his to run.

It is likely that George McPhee and the unnamed Las Vegas hockey club would want Mahoney to perform a similar job to the one that he currently does in Washington. There’s no word yet on whether the Capitals chose to allow Mahoney to speak with McPhee and Vegas, but not doing so might strain relationships, both with Mahoney and McPhee.

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
