Wednesday night, RMNB’s Nathan Sick wrote about Brett Connolly’s brilliant season and the dominance of the Capitals’ third line. The trio of Andre Burakovsky, Lars Eller, and Connollly are second in the league with a 61.6 shot attempt percentage and first in the league with an 88.1 goals for percentage.
Well don’t look now, but Big Game Brett just scored again. Connolly now has goals in three-straight games and just tied his career high in a season (12).

After dumping the puck into the Red Wings’ Zone, Connolly attempts to get around Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser. Except his skate collides with Lars Eller’s and he goes down in a heap. But Connolly gets up and stays with the play. After Petr Mrazek stops a Karl Alzner shot from the point, the puck bounces right to Connolly who pots the goal from no angle.
Kids, this is why you should never give up on a play.
Connolly, who is hotter than hot magma right now, is now on a five-game point streak. Though the third-line’s good mojo may be over.
Late in the first period, Burakovsky injured his hand after blocking a shot. He will not return to the game.
