Before Friday there had been 18 goals in Tom Wilson‘s NHL career. Like the player, they’ve been simple goals. Meat-and-taters goals. Starchy, with ketchup on the side. Nothing fancy, but they get the job done.
And then, on Friday night, we saw number nineteen. It was a prime rib wristshot, with a supple bearnaise, paired with a fine Peruvian red. Delicious.
Scoreless in the first, Dmitry Orlov got stymied not far into the offensive zone. No worries, as Wilson came up the rear, carrying the puck just north of the faceoff circle.
And that’s where he released this monster.
The shot was a blur, beating Cam Talbot on the far side.
There was much celebration.

That is Tom’s fifth of the season. And his best ever, imho.
