TJ Oshie scored two goals early in Saturday’s win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, then nearly fifty minutes passed without a third. Once Andrei Vasilevskiy abandoned the net in the game’s final two minutes, Oshie completed the hat trick with — well, I guess that was technically an empty-net alley oop?
Whatever it was, it has given Oshie his first hat trick since 2015 and it puts him in front of Alex Ovechkin in the Caps’ goal-scoring race.
I mean. Check this out. This is a scoop, right? He scored this goal the same way my nephew bowls. It was a muffin all the way.
The celebration was muted, though CSN did report that some hats hit the ice. (Nice work, Caps fans in Florida.)
Here’s video of all the goals.

With 29 tallies, Oshie leads Alex Ovechkin by one. Ovechkin has led the Capitals in goals in every season since he joined the league.
Oshie’s shooting percentage is 24.2%, more than 10 points above his career average. His last hat trick came in January of 2015, when the Blues played San Jose.
