Wednesday morning, the TODAY show featured a quick segment with the 125-year-old Stanley Cup. Hosts Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer plugged NBCSN’s extensive NHL playoffs coverage, which begins this evening at 7 PM.
Everything was going fine until Lauer declared his love for the Rangers. Then a loud person chimed in from the crowd, turning a meh segment into a great one.

“Go Rangers!” Lauer said as Guthrie finished her plug.
“Washington CAPITALS,” yelled a man in a Redskins shirt. “OOOOOH YEAH!!!”
“Capitals fan over there,” Lauer responded.
“Oh yeah, love it,” Guthrie said.
“Okay, security, escort that guy out of here,” Lauer joked.
“Nick and I got to go the last home game of the Rangers,” Al Roker said to break the awkwardness. “They did pretty good. They beat the Penguins.”
“Let’s go Rangers,” Lauer concluded.
Al Roker then interviewed the family, who said they were from Maryland, before doing the weather.
