Karl Alzner misses first game in seven years, Nate Schmidt is in

Morning skate suggested it, but pregame warmups confirmed it: Karl Alzner is out, and Nate Schmidt is in.

Alzner had not missed a game since 2010.

From the Caps:

Game Three would have been Alzner’s 600th consecutive game, if you count the postseason.

Schmidt last played on April 9 against the Panthers. He’ll be paired with John Carlson tonight.

It’ll be great to see Schmidt get some action, but this is a rotten way for it to have happened.
