When the Washington Capitals take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2018 NHL Stadium Series game in Annapolis next March, lots of Caps fans will be there to cheer them on. The team on Tuesday announced that Caps season ticket holders will have “priority access.”
In an email to season ticket holders, the Caps explained just how the process will work, since the Stadium Series is considered a special event not included in the ticket plans fans purchase for the year.
“The 2018 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ is a separate event not included in the full season ticket plans and will be billed at a later date,” the email explained. “Information regarding availability, pricing, and seat locations will be announced by the National Hockey League and Washington Capitals at a later time. Capitals season ticket members who renewed or purchased their 2017-18 season ticket plans based on 41 regular season and 3 preseason games to be played at Verizon Center will have their balances adjusted for the reduced schedule of games.”
It sounds like the process will work much like it did when the Capitals hosted the Chicago Blackhawks for the Winter Classic at Nationals Park in 2015. Season ticket holders will pay for one fewer game in their plans, and have the option to purchase separate tickets for the special outdoor game.
Because the sight lines in a stadium are different than an arena, season ticket holders can probably expect different options for views than they’re used to. For the Winter Classic, many fans whose regular tickets are in the upper level of Verizon Center were in the lower level at Nats Park, and vice versa.
