Brett Connolly leaves game after hit from Erik Gudbranson

The road trip through Western Canada has just started, and it’s already real bad. Down 3-0 to the Vancouver Canucks heading early in the second period, the Caps lost forward Brett Connolly after a hit by Erik Gudbranson.

And the Caps roster was already paper-thin before this.

Connolly attempted a reverse along the boards in the Vancouver zone, but Gudbranson was all over him. Gudbranson’s shoulder ran into Connolly’s turned back, pushing Connolly’s head into the glass. Connolly fell to the ice.

Connolly stayed a moment on the bench before heading down the tunnel. He’s not coming back for the third.
