TJ Oshie scores twice in ridiculous seven-goal second period

The Washington Capitals came out listless against the Nashville Predators and trailed them 2-0 after twenty minutes of play. The Caps managed an incredibly bad three shots on goal during the first period, including only one solitary SOG at even-strength.

The Caps however came out with a more dedicated effort in the second period, including two tallies by TJ Oshie.

Unfortunately, the Preds erupted too. Nashville outscored the Capitals 4-3 in the second period. Yes, seven goals in total were scored.

Let’s review.

TJ Oshie (1) | 4:29 / 2nd

2-1 Preds. Osh Babe started the scoring in the second period, deflecting a John Carlson shot from the point in with his glove. The tally was Oshie’s sixth power-play goal of the season.

Alex Chaisson | 6:28 / 2nd

2-2. 1:59 later, Alex Chaisson tied the game after one-timing a slap shot past Pekka Rinne to the top corner.

Filip Forsberg | 6:45 / 2nd

3-2 Preds. 17 seconds later, former Capital Filip Forsberg answered on the very next shift. Forsberg caromed a shot off Brooks Orpik’s leg and in.

Kevin Fiala | 9:04 / 2nd

4-2 Preds. The Predators would get their two-goal lead back 2:19 later. Kevin Fiala redirected a Mattias Ekholm shot from the high slot through the five-hole of Braden Holtby.

TJ Oshie (2) | 9:21 / 2nd

4-3 Preds. After some beautiful tic-tac-toe passing, TJ Oshie scored his second goal of the game. It was Oshie’s ninth goal of the season and his 14th career tally against the Preds, his most against any career foe.

Miika Salomaki | 14:06 / 2nd

5-3 Preds. Several minutes later, however, Miika Salomaki skated into the zone and fired a shot from the point that eluded the glove of Braden Holtby.

Mattias Ekholm | 18:00 / 2nd

6-3 Preds. Mattias Ekholm would later add another goal after knocking a one-timer from the point through traffic and past the glove of Braden Holtby. It was a power-play goal.
