According to KHL reporter Aivis Kalniņš, Ilya Samsonov is expected to sign an entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals after April 30.
Samsonov is considered by many to be one of the best goaltenders outside of North America. He’s represented by Hockey Hall of Famer Igor Larionov at The Will Sports Group.

This report echoes previous reporting in late March that the Capitals goaltending prospect, and 2015 first-round pick, would sign after his KHL contract officially ended.
“Goalie Ilya Samsonov will not extend his contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk and after the end of the season will join the Washington Capitals system,” Panyshev wrote on Twitter in March.
NHL.ru’s Igor Eronko later replied to Panyshev’s tweet, saying “Samsonov himself isn’t sure of that.”
Metallurg had offered Samsonov a contract extension.
