SHL playoff sensation and Capitals prospect Axel Jonsson-Fjällby is done for the season. With a 6-2 loss to Skellefteå AIK, Jonsson-Fjällby’s Djurgården has been eliminated from the SHL playoffs semifinals in six games.
The 20-year-old Swede finished the postseason the same way he started it, scoring a goal midway through the third period.
But by then the homecrowd had seen their team put up a four spot on Djurgården goalkeeper Adam Reideborn. After a close first period, Skelleftå scored four times in an eight-minute span in the middle of the stanza to pretty much kill all hope for Djurgården, who needed a win to stay alive for a Game Seven.
Jonsson-Fjällby’s goal came 8:53 in to the third period and it was an ugly one.

Linus Hultström’s shot bounced in front of the net and suddenly found Jonsson Fjällby’s stick. Axel calmly put the biscuit in the basket, cuttin SAIK’s lead to 4-1. Daniel Brodi would add another goal for Djurgården a couple of minutes later, making the finish interesting. But Skellefteå cut all hope with two empty netters for a 6-2 win.
Axel Jonsson-Fjällby finishes his first real playoff campaign with six goals and two assist in 11 games.
His goal total ranks second among all SHL players. Jonsson-Fjällby finshed the regular season with seven goals and nine assist in 42 games. The Washington Capitals will reportedly sign the speedy winger to an entry-level contract for next season.
